Apama

Hi, I'm Apama, a video artist who specializes in real-time, generative, and interactive visuals, usually featuring at musical events. I love using live camera feedback loops in combination with transformative and generative shaders to create a unique combination of organic and geometric patterns sure to delight event attendees while tastefully highlighting the performer in the video feed. I aim to amplify the emotional resonance of any performance I am part of.

I am perfectly happy to bring generic visuals and improvise my performances. However, for musical artists that have a vision they'd like me to execute on, I can also deeply integrate with their vision, agreeing on protocols for the performer being able to trigger events in the visuals or even time-coding the whole performance for millisecond precision visuals. I am also happy to consult on artistic vision and develop it together.

About

"Apama" is the alias encompassing the real-time, interactive visual art work of Ellie Corvinova. They have been working on real-time interactive visual art of some form or another in the Bay Area since 2013, usually at private parties and festivals.

The name "Apama" has dual inspiration: It is a portmanteau of "pa" and "ma", a nod to Ellie's experience as a nonbinary parent. It is also inspired by Ascarosepion apama, the largest species of cuttlefish. Ellie is incredibly jealous of how Cuttlefish can alter the shape and color patterns of their skin at will, which they use to communicate to other cuttlefish, camouflage, and hypnotize their prey. They're also occasionally genderqueer as some of them will alter their appearance to that of the opposite sex from time to time. :3
